General and Restorative Dentistry: Comprehensive Care for Your Smile

Dental Implants

Dental implants provide the most stable and natural looking method of restoration for patients who are missing one or more of their natural teeth. Unlike removable dentures and bridges, dental implants replace the entire structure of the missing tooth, from root to crown. As a result, they look, feel, and function more like natural teeth than any other tooth-replacement option, giving our patients the ability to chew, speak, and smile with renewed confidence.

At the beginning of the implantation procedure, our periodontist, Dr. Moezinia, will surgically place a titanium implant into the gums. Because titanium is generally well accepted by the human body, this rod will fuse to the jawbone, serving as a strong replacement for the missing natural tooth root. After the jawbone and gums have sufficiently healed and the jaw bone has fused to your implant, a custom-crafted porcelain crown is placed on top of the implant. The results will look and feel remarkably natural!

Candidates for this procedure must have healthy gums and enough bone for the implant to fuse well with the jaw.

All-Porcelain Lava™ Crowns

With state-of-the-art Lava™ porcelain crowns, Dr. Aaronson can reshape broken or chipped teeth, or replace missing teeth while achieving the beauty of all-porcelain substitutes. You can achieve perfectly shaped teeth and dramatically improve any existing imperfections. Lava™ porcelain crowns also offer the natural appearance of ceramics, which allow light to reflect off your tooth surface naturally. Unlike crowns made with metal and coated with ceramic, all-porcelain restorations will not develop an unsightly black line around the gum-area over time.

All-Porcelain Lava™ Bridges

In the past, bridges had to be built with a metal core, which was the only way dentists could create teeth strong enough to handle the biting pressure of three meals per day. We create all-porcelain Lava™ bridges to fill gaps up to three teeth wide, cementing your bridgework either to existing crowns or your natural teeth. Because they are made of 100 percent porcelain, we can place our bridges above the gum line – a much healthier option for your teeth and gums. They are also a much more natural looking option than metal teeth with porcelain coatings. Because they are all-porcelain crafted, they don’t have a black line appearing near the gums over time.

Full Mouth Restoration

Some patients have more serious dental needs and may require more extensive treatment to revitalize their teeth. Decay, accidents, age, and other factors may leave teeth broken, crooked, discolored, or chipped. Full mouth restoration, however, gives everyone a second chance at having a youthful, beautiful grin. Dr. Aaronson will work with our staff periodontist to treat your gums and identify any areas in your mouth that show signs of disease or decay. He will then formulate a comprehensive treatment plan to restructure your teeth, not only to restore their functionality, but to make them aesthetically pleasing as well.

Although the process will take several appointments, the results are worth the wait. Most patients are extremely pleased with their new smile. Indeed, for many patients, full mouth restoration not only renewed the beauty and health of their teeth and gums, but also boosted their self-esteem.

Porcelain Inlays and Onlays

For those patients that have problems with the biting surface of their teeth and larger areas of decay, there is a solution. Porcelain inlays and onlays can fill areas of decay in your teeth. Porcelain inlays are placed within the cusps of the tooth, while porcelain onlays cover the actual biting surface of the tooth. Using an impression of the affected area, Dr. Aaronson will use porcelain filling material to replace the areas of decay and protect teeth from further disease and wear.

Periodontics

A certain amount of bacteria is healthy in the mouth. However, if bacteria are allowed to grow unchecked, complications such as gingivitis can arise. When gum disease starts to affect the tooth root, gums, and bone structures that hold your teeth in place, the disease is called periodontitis.

Mild gingivitis develops as plaque and tartar buildup at the base of the teeth. As the gum tissue swells around the area, it can form pockets of tartar and plaque which, if allowed to grow, can eventually destroy the bones and tissues that hold teeth in place. Periodontitis is the main reason that people lose their teeth as they age.

Non-Surgical Periodontal Treatments

If Dr. Aaronson determines that periodontal disease has caused your gums to recede and there is potential bone loss, he may recommend scaling and root planing, the standard treatment for gum disease. After applying a local anesthetic to numb the area, a periodontist will treat your teeth by scraping away the tartar and plaque from above and below the gum line. Planing will smooth the surface of the tooth root where bacteria linger and grow. The smooth surface of the tooth will allow the gum tissue to reattach to the root of the tooth more quickly.

After the procedure, we will treat the area with Arestin®, a prescription antibiotic powder. Arestin® contains microspheres full of minocycline, a medication that will foster the growth of new, stronger gum tissue around the tooth. The Arestin® powder will be placed inside infected periodontal pockets in order to fight infection and encourage new gum tissue growth. Research has shown that the use of Arestin® has been very successful in reducing the affects of periodontal disease in clinical studies.

Surgical Periodontal Treatments

We offer surgical treatments for patients who are experiencing the advanced stages of periodontal disease. Dr. Moezinia, our in-office periodontist, has the skills and training to remove the diseased areas surgically and promote bone regeneration in order to prevent the advancement of further periodontitis.

Osseous Surgery

In this surgical treatment, the gum is pulled back for access to the bone and tooth root. Dr. Moezinia will remove the bone affected by periodontitis near the tooth. Afterwards, the gum tissue is stitched back around the tooth and, as it heals, the gums will seal tightly to the tooth, securing it in place.

Bone Regeneration

In a bone regeneration procedure, your natural teeth may be saved even though you are in the advanced stages of periodontal disease. Bone loss in the jaw due to disease and decay can eventually cause tooth loss later in life. If you are experiencing bone loss in the areas around your teeth, a bio-gel may be inserted between your teeth and gums to encourage bone cells to grow around your tooth. The cells will grow back around the roots of the tooth, stabilizing and preserving it.

Full and Partial Dentures

If you are missing one or more of your natural teeth, dentures may be a good option for you. Dr. Aaronson will customize your dentures so that they look entirely natural and fit comfortably and snugly in your mouth. Full dentures can be used to replace all of your upper and lower teeth. A partial denture may also be removable, attached to a wire mounted inside the mouth, or attached to a crown already in place.

Dentures are custom-made following impressions taken of your mouth. If you are experiencing tooth pain due to disease or trauma, or you have lost most of your natural teeth, it may be possible for you to receive your full dentures on the same day you have your teeth removed. The dentures look similar to natural teeth and may be removed for cleaning or sleeping.

Dentures are not permanent and will need to be relined, refitted, or changed on a continual basis. Partial dentures can be expanded with further artificial teeth if tooth loss continues over time.

If you prefer a more stable alternative to removable dentures, implant-supported dentures may be the best option for you. Contact our office and schedule an appointment with Dr. Aaronson to learn more about the full range of options available for replacing your missing teeth.

Root Canal Therapy

The pulp of your tooth is a stretch of nerves and connective tissue that extends from the top of the tooth down into the root. Years ago, if bacteria invaded the pulp through cracks in the enamel or an injury, a dentist would have to remove the tooth. Now, through the techniques of modern dentistry, root canal therapy allows you to save your natural tooth, which is always preferable to replacing it.

During the root canal therapy procedure, Dr. Aaronson will make an opening to the root through the top of the tooth. He will then remove the pulp of your tooth to stop the decay. The canal is then shaped so it can be filled with medication and temporarily capped to prevent bacteria from further getting inside the tooth. This temporary cap will be replaced by a strong porcelain or metal crown to maintain the strength of the tooth and stop the further spread of disease. This entire procedure can generally be performed in one visit.

Root canal therapy can help save your natural teeth and prevent further dental problems from developing down the road. If you are experiencing severe tooth pain, please contact our office today to schedule an appointment.
